Religious Trauma Therapy: Rebuild and Enhance Your Connection to Self and Others

Psychotherapy in Portland, Oregon (and statewide in Oregon and Washington State)

Who We Are

Kindred Holistic Therapy is a private practice offering holistic psychotherapy and mental health support to individuals in Oregon and Washington State. We believe that healing happens both in the therapy room, but also in connection to others and our community.

For those who have experienced religious trauma or emotional harm from high-control systems, it can feel overwhelming to ask for help. It can also feel daunting and scary to reconsider beliefs and traditions. Whether you’re leaving a religious tradition or trying to rebuild your spiritual practice, it can feel isolating to go on this deeply personal journey.

Who We Work With

If you’ve experienced religious trauma, or abuse, or are navigating a transition from a high-control religious system, you might be experiencing or have familiarity with the following:

  • People-pleasing

  • Perfectionism

  • Black-and-white thinking

  • Lack of self-trust, self-esteem, or self-compassion

  • A sense of shame related to their sexuality or identity.

  • Negative body-image (influenced by Purity Culture)

  • Strained relationships with your family of origin

  • PTSD or CPTSD

  • Relationship Issues

  • Insecure attachment

  • Grief

  • Social Anxiety and Isolation

  • and more

At Kindred Holistic Therapy, we offer support to folks navigating a wide range of concerns, but we are especially passionate in our focus on supporting individuals who have experienced religious trauma and are seeking to live more connected to themselves, their heart, their bodies, and to all those they are in relationship with.

We also offer relational and couples therapy that offers unique support for relationships impacted by spiritual abuse, purity culture, or other ways involvement in high-control groups might be serving as a barrier to intimacy, emotional connection, trust, and other issues.
